COVID'19 SME&AF WARNS AGAINST FAKE NEWS

Press Release 

Social Media Evangelism and Advocacy Foundation (SMEAF) uses this medium to urge the general public to stay safe by observing social distancing and to practice hygienic lifestyle in order to curb the spread of the dreaded coronavirus also known as COVID-19. 

 

To make the fight against the virus more effective, kindly disregard rumours or information from unreliable sources. Fake news creates panic. Whenever you get any unreliable information, stay calm and stay safe until you get reliable directives from Federal and State Government authorities which have been trying to contain the virus in Nigeria. 

On the other hand, both state and federal government should ensure that there is strict monitoring of the measures that have been put in place to contain the virus. 

Also, efforts should be made by the government at all levels through their health ministries in establishing and equipping isolation centres across the nooks and crannies of the country in order to be able to salvage any unforeseen eventualities.  

As a matter of urgency, the Government should make it a point of duty to monitor borders and every other point of entries into the country to ensure that the lockdown order is enforced to the maximum. There should be no going out or coming into the country until this pandemic is over. 

Besides that, there is a need for more awareness to be created amongst the residents of Nigeria as many don't really understand what COVID-19 is or understand how to prevent its continuous spread within their communities. 

In this light, SMEAF urges all religious leaders, traditional rulers and opinion leaders across the country to enlighten their followers on the evils and prevention of COVID-19. They should also ensure that the people under their influence concur with the social distancing policy which is believed will help in curbing the spread of the virus.

Above all, we urge every citizen to be more prayerful as we need God's intervention in a time like this.
