#endsarsprotest2020 ; Problem and Prospect.
BEING PRESS STATEMENT RELEASED BY SENIOR VOLUNTEER COMRADE SHIPEOLU; CONVENER SOCIAL MEDIA EVANGELISM AND ADVOCACY FOUNDATION TODAY MONDAY 19th SEPTEMBER 2020.
#endsarsprotest2020 ; Problem and Prospect.
The right of every citizen is to protest whenever the government makes any dissatisfactory policy or move therefore to abate such policy the citizens can express their grievance through protest. Therefore I commend all foot soldier who has taken it up upon themselves to be physically available to say NOTOSARS and NOTOPOLICEBRUTALITY. It is therefore long overdue and a right step.
Having said that, it is therefore pertinent to note that the effort so far has never been in futility as I am so optimistic that the government has heard us loud and clear. This is the power of the youth and the strength in uniformity.
Our silence in time past has worked assiduously against us and this has brought us to where we are today. Looking inwards and to be realistic, the original motive behind the sector of the police force called special anti-robbery squad (SARS) is never to intimidate average Nigerians and those going about their lawful activities but to be an end to the menace of robbery and all manner of cyber fraud, but some personnel of the Special Anti Robbery Squad do beyond the stipulated mandate by harassing, brutalizing and taking advantage of average Nigerians. Not only that, some of them sees the assignment as an opportunity to enrich themselves therefore do go tothe extent of wasting lives, which is babaric and inhumane.
The question is do the government need to have a special unit to combat against robbery? Do the police need to combat against cyber fraud? My simples answer is yes.
Therefore the solution is total reform of the police force and government should also see to the welfare of the police force , so they can be more effective and efficient in delivering their duties. The police force can also be equipped technologically as this will do more in fighting against all forms of crime in the society.
Fellow youths,
truth be told not all protesters are doing this in good faith as some are also bad eggs who has been a threat to the peace of the nation by their ways of life and activities.
You are involved in cyber fraud and protesting?
You are a armed bandit and protesting?
My simple advice;
Shun Cybercrime
Shun thuggery
Shun drug abuse
To the government:
Please intensify effort to create an employable environment for the unemployed youth that are around the street which the rate is alarming and we are turning out graduates every now and then. How then do you effectively tackle crimes in the society when the youths are unemployed? I am too sure if the government at all levels can focus and tackle the issue of unemployment, we will surely have a drastic low rate of crime in Nigeria.
Dear protesters;
While demonstrating our civil right please let us be moderate and never allow any of our demonstration to lead to loss of life as there is no blood worth to be shed for any reason please. Blockage of road is a no as a lot is attached to the detriment of the citizens which can cost a lot of hula balloo.
Once the government show commitment and are articulate enough let us shield our sword and give them benefit of doubt for full implementation of our demands.
A new Nigeria of our dream is achievable and we all have our destiny in our hand.
Thank you for taking your time to read this short piece.
